Go North to Gore Mountain for this Historic Mansion, $199,900
Kandy Harris | December 5, 2019The Dunn Mansion in Johnsburg, NY might be rough around the edges, but it could shine in the hands of the right owner.
If you’re wondering why we’ve headed north of Schenectady for this c.1840s mansion in need of TLC, we’ve got two reasons. First of all, we can’t resist an old, rambling estate with historic character. Secondly, this old, rambling estate happens to sit less than ten miles from Gore Mountain, one of the most popular ski mountains in New York State, and the closest one to the Capital District.
Formerly a summer resort back in 1916 with buildings added back in the 1930s, the main house includes seven bedrooms and three baths. The current owners carefully gutted the interior but left behind the original features like moldings, windows, doors, flooring, staircases, and pocket doors. While you finish work, you can live in the attached carriage house, which has already been restored.
The main portion of the house, however, is 4,390 square feet in size, needs quite a bit of love, and includes fireplaces and an upper-level balcony.
If innkeeping is your game, fix up the 8-unit guest house and open it up to the slopes crowd…
…and, while you’re at it, renovate the two additional structures on the 16-acre property.
The mansion is situated in Johnsburg, NY, up in the northwest corner of Warren County.
