Friday, October 16th is recognized by the U.N. as “U.N. World Food Day,” made to raise awareness for global hunger problems. In honor of the day, Susan Zimet, Executive Director with the Hunger Action Network of New York State, has partnered with Craig Shankles, founder of non-profit “Local at Heart,” for a fundraising event at Liberty View Farm in Highland.

The event theme, Empty Bowls, will have children from The Misty Mountain Girl Scout troop, local elementary schools, and the Dutch Reformed Church of New Paltz, will use their artistic creativity and paint over 150 empty bowls to raise other’s and their own awareness of hunger problems. The event will feature soups, breads, an auction, jazz band Soul Purpose, and night-time apple picking.

Attendance will be $20 and all proceeds will go to food pantries to aid their fight in local hunger. Attendees will leave the event with one of the aforementioned young artists’ ceramic bowls. Tickets can be purchased here.
