We looked at a lot of lake homes during our search for the ideal writer’s retreat, but none that we saw seemed to nail our preferences quite like this cottage near Copake Lake in Columbia County. Sure, a little more land would be nice, as well as a touch more seclusion. Maybe a view of something out of that wall of picture windows. Well, something other than the cross street, anyway. The lake community itself, however, remains popular among second home owners, and has its own country club, restaurant, and golf course, just in case you feel the need to spoil a good walk.
