Event: Ashokan Fiddle & Dance Camp

  |  July 11, 2012

What’s that you say? You don’t dance or play the fiddle? Perfect! Ashokan is for novices and experienced folks alike, and there are far more instruments welcome than fiddles — guitars and banjos and mandolins and more, depending on the week. (Full disclosure: a certain father or a certain Upstater writer is a regular guitar and banjo teacher at Western and Swing week…but that’s already over for the year.)

Here’s a recent article about the music camps, held in Olivebridge, just past the Ashokan Reservoir (hence the name). Next on the docket is Northern week, for those of you enamored of Norwegian and Swedish folk tunes. There’s a special guitar camp, and then Southern week, with clogging, Appalachian tunes and more. Read all about it on the Ashokan website. We can personally recommend the setting, the music, the dancing, the food and, of course, the instructors.
