Farewell to Mama’s Boy Market in Phoenicia

Mama’s Boy Market has been a popular spot for coffee in Phoenicia since 2010. In fact, it’s the go-to place for caffeinated nectar in the Catskills hamlet, but it’s more than that. It’s a meeting place. It’s a landmark. Some might even call it an institution and a key component in Phoenicia’s rise in popularity. However, Mama’s Boy days are numbered. The market is set to close for good on Monday, November 30th, the last day of the month. They broke the news on Facebook this morning. From the post penned by Mama’s Boy owner Michael Koegel:

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Mama’s Boy Coffee Shop will be closing permanently on November 30th (MAMA’S BOY BURGERS IS REMAINING OPEN). Unfortunately, we lost our lease at our Phoenicia location and so our last day of serving the community will be this Monday.

I’d like to thank all of you for five and a half years of support and friendship. Some people told me I was crazy to open a coffee shop in Phoenicia. But then others, strangers, would see me outside working on the renovation or picking up debris and call out ‘Thank you!’ for doing something with this derelict lot in the middle of town. That’s when I knew I was doing the right thing.”

Bad news for coffee lovers in Phoenicia. The silver lining? Mama’s Boy Burgers in Tannersville is staying open.
