Five-Figure Friday: A Columbia County Studio-Sized Cottage for $84.5K
Jane Anderson | April 7, 2023
Today’s Five-Figure Friday fixer-upper needs a lot of imagination to love it back to life.
It’s in the Columbia County village of Valatie—which, by the way, isn’t pronounced VAL-a-tee. It’s val-LAY-sha (now you know). Currently, it’s a studio with zero bedrooms, one bath, and a kitchen. But it sits on nearly three-quarters of an acre, which might provide for expansion possibilities if municipal regulations allow it. The white wood siding needs rehabbing with some urgency; however, the roof looks solid.
Inside, past the enclosed front porch, is a 400-square-foot great room with walls of wood. The floor, too, is hardwood.
Part of the opposite end of the room looks as if someone started to brighten it up with white paint.
That tall, peaked, exposed-rafter ceiling would be a good focal point after renovation.
A frosted-glass door opens in to what would be a bathroom.
And the kitchen is tucked into a former back porch.
Granted, the house needs a lot of hard work. But it sits on a good-sized parcel of land.
The property has seasonal views of Kinderhook Lake, and it’s close to the Empire Trail for hiking or biking. The cottage just needs the right owner who wants to put the work into it.
