Get Saucy with Casa Hudson
Mary Looram | August 27, 2015On August 30th, this Sunday, Casa Hudson in Haverstraw is hosting “The Tomato: Can it, Cook it + Celebrate it with Papa Cilio“. For interested connoisseurs and amateurs alike, the Rockland County bed and breakfast welcomes anyone to join Papa Cilio for the 12PM to 3PM class on how to can tomatoes in the Neopolitan style (that’s Naples, Italy, not the ice cream). Fitting, seeing as the building is a newly restored Italian Renaissance style home. According to the website, the class is hands-on and provides the tomatoes. In my dreams, hands-on means not only instruction but also a literal chance to squish some of the shiny, red jewels in between my fingers. Alternatively, is it only wine making when you get to step on fruit? Regardless of technique, the class is $60 per person and also includes lunch immediately following the lesson. If you’re the type to turn a 3PM lunch into an all night bender, Casa Hudson conveniently lists either separate rooms on AirBnB (example: The Garden View Room) or the entire building on Homeaway. Rent a room, buy some wine (the lunch is BYOB) and eat some delicious Italian pasta with fresh, hand-made tomato sauce.
