A Gothic Update in Newburgh, NY, $599,900

There’s nothing spooky about this Newburgh Goth Victorian with a new interior look.

We’re taking a short detour away from this week’s tour of big houses for sale in Kingston, NY in search of a spooky-season-appropriate home for sale, and what’s more spooky-season-appropriate than a rambling c.1850s Gothic Victorian?

And, if you’re experiencing an eerie sense of deja vu, it’s not the ghosts of Halloween haunting you. In fact, Upstater haunted this home earlier this year, back when it had a room that looked like this:

After recent and stylish update, the Frederick Clarke Withers-designed, 5,545-square-foot brick home called Glenbrook now looks like this:

Its Gothic details, however, remain…

…like the ornate fireplaces and Grecian-inspired garland moldings…

…as well as wood paneling, high ceilings, parquet floors, and banisters.

Interestingly, two of Glenbrook’s four bathrooms give us strong midcentury “pink bathroom” vibes. The mint green bath also looks positively Kubrickian and straight out of room 237 at the Overlook Hotel…

…and the pink version adjoins a massive, light-filled bedroom in need of some shine and polish.

It even matches the pink attic room!

Here’s another attic room, this one crisp-white and also full of light. The home has four bedrooms total..

When you’re not rambling around this big old house while clad in Victorian garb and lit by candlelight, ramble around on the two-acre property consisting of rolling green lawns and shady trees, perfect for impromptu ghost-hunting after dark.
