Gothic Revival in Pine Hill: $489K

  |  January 6, 2025

It’s certainly freezin’ season, and Upstater’s seeking out fireplaces and woodstoves to toast our toes.

This Gothic Revival in Ulster County’s Pine Hill fits the bill. It’s got five bedrooms—one that’s set up like a bunkroom—and two full baths. The facade drips with Gothic details: a decorative bargeboard at the roof peak, mirroring a triangular piece between it and the second-story window, and a tall chimney with a pattern of tiles.

The front porch wraps around the side in a wide sweep that’s big enough for dining alfresco (in much warmer times).

Stained-glass rectangles surround a pressed-glass center in the front door.

A vintage wood-burning stove likely heats up this living room to toasty temps. The textured faux-stone wall behind it could use an update, but the hardwood flooring looks well-maintained.

An alcove holds a very vintage—and most likely decorative—stove.

The kitchen itself is nicely modernized, with granite counters on the cabinets and a swath of butcher block on the center island. The island can seat three, plus there’s room for a dinette next to doors leading outside.

Floor-to-ceiling windows add even more natural light.

Knotty-pine flooring highlights the dining room, which also has sliders to the fresh air.

A full bath is on the main floor. It’s heavy on the brown-ceramic-tile ethos.

A slim shower stall is perfect for a daily washup.

A four-paned bow window complements a floor-to-ceiling window in this carpeted bedroom.

This lil writing nook with a decoratively shaded window…

…is tucked under the eaves of this bedroom.

This large room also has an angled ceiling and wall-to-wall carpeting.

Straight ceilings, a single window, and a closet bring this bedroom back to basics.

Wow, this big, bright bedroom sleeps at least four, if not more.

The upstairs bathroom has a standalone tub, a pedestal sink, and brown beaded-board wainscoting.

The house measures 2,412 square feet; the rear of the house has nearly as much character as the front, with high gables and decorative colors. A wide deck spans the entire rear of the house.

Plus, a pergola occupies the other end of the deck.

It offers a pretty view of the woodsy backyard. The property is nearly a full acre. In the heart of Shandaken, it’s a two-minute drive to Belleayre Mountain, where great skiing can be had.
