Highland Falls Foursquare, $199,000

Pick a Hudson River town, punch search criteria into Zillow including a max. price of $250,000, and scroll down. The farther south you go, the more rare those properties become. For a lot of us, real estate prices south of Ulster County are still out of reach. Jump east across the river, and the prices climb even higher. Highland Falls, located in Orange County right near West Point and the USMA, is one of the last little enclaves of affordable properties on the west side of the Hudson. It’s a charming village, to boot, with all of the nifty architecture that you’d expect from a Hudson River town. We came across this neat-as-pin American Foursquare near the center of Highland Falls for less than $200,000. Walking distance to Highland Falls’ Main Street businesses, the property includes a small backyard, detached garage, walk-out basement, walk-up attic, and well-maintained interior. FYI: The listing puts the property taxes around $6500. That seems low to us. Highland Falls’ property taxes are generally kind of high. Propertyshark.com, on the other hand, puts the tax amount for 2013 at nearly $14,000.
