Hillside Schoolhouse is officially our House Crush of the Week…

Formerly a one-room school house and chapel, Hillside Schoolhouse dates back to 1893. Its updates, however, took place in 2013, when it was transformed into a stunning two-bedroom home with oodles of interior open space.

The main floor includes 18-foot ceilings, fully modern kitchen, powder room, and laundry. We love that the renovation kept the original slate chalkboards, Douglas fir wood floors, large windows, carved wood doors, and woodwork, all the while interweaving it with modern comforts like central air and two en suite bedrooms.

In addition to a schoolhouse and church, the Hillside Schoolhouse has a history as a successful rental property with lots of good reviews, more of which you can see here.

Barryville, NY is in southwestern Sullivan County, right on the NY/PA border, about an hour from Newburgh and the Hudson River. This is gorgeous Catskills countryside on the Delaware River, with great food, cute towns, and outdoor recreation to be had nearby. The one-acre lot is close to it all, two hours from NYC.
