Improving quality of living is an idea that pretty much sums up what we’re all about here at Upstater and the up-and-coming town of Port Jervis, located in the grand county of Orange, has one of those rags to riches stories that we love. A railroad town, dating all the way back to the early 1800’s, Port Jervis saw a sharp economic decline around the time of the Great Depression. The town continued to struggle all the way up to present day but it kept its head above water and here it is, today, rising up. Many efforts to preserve the strong bones of this city are being made in order to give it the boost that it needs.

Exhibit A: Fox N Hare Brewing Co., a microbrewery that will soon be opening on Front Street, in downtown Port Jervis. According to MilfordNow, this brewery might be just what the city needs.“One of the many things we like about the city of Port Jervis is the urban fabric, we want to play a part in ensuring the future and character in the downtown. We have great admiration for the vision and determination of Mayor Kelly Decker and he has been a great supporter of our vision as well,” according to owners David Krantz and Sean Donnelly.

Now that we’ve convinced you to make the move to this growing city, because lets be honest, what’s better than a local brewery as your neighbor, check out this completely affordable Victorian! (One of the perks of an up and coming city: affordable realty.) We’ve pounded it into your heads over and over but were going to say it again, “old home equals warmth and charm” and this holds true to this late 1800’s home.

Details such as the restored Rumford fireplaces with original marble mantles and arched doorways with custom molding validate this old school and command attention . The kitchen has been completely renovated with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. We don’t know about you but we were sold at the farmhouse sink.

If it were up to us, making the move to Port Jervis is a no brainer and this Victorian truly has us swooning!
