It’s Time for some Hudson Valley Pumpkin Picking!

Luckily, there’s a cornucopia of pick-your-own-farms and orchards awaiting for arrival to take away the spoils of the harvest. Here is but a taste of where you can find your carving pumpkins in time for Halloween:
Orange County (via Orange County Tourism) –
Manza Family Farm, 730 State Route 211, Montgomery, N.Y.: Pick your own pumpkins are grown on 20 acres of farm land and are part of the farm’s traditional Fall Festival held weekends in October. Tractor drawn hayrides, pony rides, a straw maze, farm animals, and a farm stand are featured. www.manzafamilyfarm.net
Lawrence Farms Orchards, 39 Colandrea Road, Newburgh, N.Y.: Visitors will enjoy this scenic location which features a little village and hay bale maze for the kids. Show chickens and playful goats add to the family friendly atmosphere. www.lawrencefarmsorchards.org
Ulster County (via Ulster County Alive!) –
Hurds Family Farm, 2187 NY-32, Modena, NY: Hurds in Modena enjoys spreading the news that it offers all shapes and sizes of pumpkins at just 50 cents per pound, meaning you can stock up for Halloween and seasonal decorations as well as pies. In addition to pumpkins, you can also help yourself to the vegetable garden and enjoy a spread of different salad greens. Saunderskill Farms, US 209, Accord, NY: Find your next jack-o-lantern at Saunderskill Farms in Accord. Pumpkins are the featured crop starting weekends in October. You can also enjoy tractor-drawn or horse-drawn hayrides and experience the corn maze. Dutchess County (via Dutchess Tourism)
Barton Orchards, Cty. Rt. 7, Beekman/Poughquag Rd., Poughquag, NY: The farm is open mid-July thru October. Pick your own farm, vegetables in season, apples, berries, pumpkins, garden center, farm market, and gift shop with homemade products. Greig Farm, 227 Pitcher Ln, Red Hook, NY: Greig Farm is open everyday for picking apples (Jonamac, McIntosh, Gala, Jonagold, Empire, Red Delicious & Macoun) and pumpkins and gourds from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. greigfarm.com
