Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, March 18-31

  |  March 12, 2012

Many Upstaters will challenge the notion that New York City is the culinary capital of the state. Yes, much of the locavore produce for the city’s finest groceries (like Forager’s, which is owned by folks with a Columbia County farm) and restaurants get their stock from the bounty of the Hudson Valley, but starting March 18th you’ll be able to sample some the deliciousness that is grown, and stays, upstate.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week spans much of Upstater’s territory (Dutchess, Columbia and Orange counties) and areas further south (Westchester and Rockland). Like many restaurant weeks, it’s not necessarily the world’s greatest deal, unless you’re going to a truly fancy restaurant. Three-course dinner menus for $29.95 (plus beverage, tax and gratuity), and in some cases a three-course lunch for $20.95 (plus beverage, tax and gratuity). But it’s great incentive to try new places, support local business and sample Hudson Valley-made products.

Anybody have any favorites on the list? We’ve enjoyed Terrapin, in Rhinebeck, in the past, but would like to hear more recommendations from readers! Thanks to Newburgh Restoration for tipping us off about the event.
