Introducing Tulip, Rhinebeck’s Newest Boutique Florist!
Abbe Aronson | June 5, 2015Greetings Upstater Friends and Fans,
There is no one more romantic than me (well, maybe there is but I’m definitely on the top ten “most romantic people” list in Hudson Valley). You want me to melt? Bring me flowers. Bring me lots and lots of flowers.
So YIPPEE!!! for Tulip in Rhinebeck, right on Montgomery Street across from Upstate Films. I was so excited to discover this color burst of a store and even happier when I saw that Tulip doesn’t just stock petals but also a fabulous and juicy assortment of great gifties.
Tulip is the collaboration of realtor Kim Cantine and photographer Jeffrey Milstein (they’re also sweethearts). Kim says they recognized the absolute lack of flower power in Rhinebeck and the surrounding areas and knew that between second-homeowners, thoughtful folks looking for great hostess gifts and people like me who just love posies, they’d have a home run with Tulip.
Do they ever! The entire store reminds me of a bag of Jolly Ranchers candies brought to life, from Jeffrey’s gorgeous large-scale photos (for sale) to the Michael Anchin hand-blown glass vases to the exceptionally glamorous housewares and gifts to the carefully curated books from local authors (including a great sketchbook on botanical drawings by Wendy Hollender). I bought the chicest, most modern (and well-priced!) kitchen timer I’ve ever seen for some design snob friends and they RAVED!
Kim can arrange absolutely beautiful bouquets, but there are really lovely loose flowers for purchase if you want to “pick your own.” When I was there, which was a Tuesday (I made them open up especially for me because I’m bossy like that), there were still gorgeous peonies, roses, gerbera daisies, hydrangeas and more, although Kim says the weekends are really when they do the bulk of their business. And yes, they can do weddings and flowers for special occasions.
Besides Jeffrey’s beautiful photos, Tulip curates a small collection of photos from other artists and will begin hosting shows shortly.
Tulip just launched their website, or you can visit their Facebook page to stay on top of what’s happening as they grow. Right now, they are open Friday-Monday so call ahead if you are in need of a flower fix on other days: (845) 876-2212.
