Lakeside Victorian in Newburgh: $980K

  |  January 22, 2025

Today, Upstater is at a lakeside Victorian in Newburgh.

Orange Lake is a lovely spot year-round; in fact, this week’s frigid temps paved the way for iceboats to sail their way across the lake. This c.1900 Victorian has the perfect view of any impromptu races.

The wraparound porch shields people (and firewood).

A terracotta-tiled entry gives way, through painted columns, to a room with a bay window.

The living room has a bow window along its dusky-blue walls, next to a snug fireplace.

A curvy staircase leads up to the second floor.

But before ascending those stairs, find this sunroom with a wide view of the lake.

The kitchen has terracotta flooring, with hardwoods in the dining area.

White cabinets contrast with black granite counters and black appliances. A huge center island shares that color scheme.

We love the fanciful wallpaper in this cozy room. It is a small room, however: it seems the dresser is tucked into the closet to save space.

Another, smaller and plainer set of steps angles up from the second-floor hallway. We’ll explore that soon.

Meanwhile, check out this bathroom. It’s got a raised, platform soaking tub rimmed in cobalt and white tile. The same tile makes its way to the attached, double-sink vanity.

And the corner shower has the same treatment.

The house has a total of four bedrooms and 2.5 baths. This bedroom is bright, with a hardwood floor and three double-paned windows.

The three bow windows make a perfect “headboard” in this bedroom.

Ah, here we are, back at those gray steps. They are steep…

…but they lead to an under-the-eaves room that would be a perfect kids’ getaway. It’s carpeted for warmth (and, dare we say, a little soundproofing?), and the planked peaks run toward a windowed gable.

Yet another set of stairs links the first and second floors on another end of the house. The main floor houses a lovely, granite-and-wood bar area with enough cabinets for a small kitchen. In fact, there is a stove and sink hookup hidden here if the new owner wishes to convert it.

A living area and separate entrance hint at a potential accessory use.

Yep—with a full bedroom up here, this side of the house could be its own apartment.

It’s got its own bathroom with a shower, too.

The house sits on a half-acre with trees and landscaping that are pretty in the growing months.

The Orange Lake community is picturesque, while still close to Town of Newburgh shopping and amenities. A sunset dinner at the Lakeview House, a mere tenth of a mile away, is a must.
