Did last week’s post on the agricultural initiatives taking root in Kingston leave you yearning for more info on the farm-to-plate movement north of the Big Apple? Did you find yourself Googling “farm hub?” Well, if you did, you’re certainly not alone. Interest in and demand for local produce is on the rise on our region, and the Hudson River Exchange wants to keep the dialogue between the agricultural community and the rest of us going strong. To that end, they will be hosting a C.S.A Fair on March 1st with the intention of connecting those of us who rely heavily on the “What’s in Season” calendar on the fridge with our local farmers. So ditch the brunch plans this weekend and find a place for you and your fellow foodies to crash for a day of good conversation and delicious local produce in Hudson!

1) The Thomas Jenkins House

Price/night: $250
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 bedroom
Max guests: 2
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
The Thomas Jenkins House is the perfect place to get your history fix during the weekend’s introduction to upstate agriculture. The home was originally owned by one of the original “Proprietors” of Hudson, and was later host to a “Young Ladies Seminary” for over thirty years. Nowadays, the TJ House is the contemporary manifestation of the same classic Federal style that was popular during the time of its construction. The interior is pristine, uncluttered, and refined, though certainly not without a few touches of personality. The hosts of this elegant rental have added several modern amenities to make their 21st century guests feel at home in an 18th century dwelling; the apartment features a large oven, dishwasher, microwave, flat screen TV, and a comfy king-sized bed.

Sample reviews:

“My wife and I spent a most wonderful week in Hudson Valley. What made the stay really great was this beautifully furnished apartment. It was awesome coming back to this very warm apartment after long day of sightseeing the beautiful Hudson Valley area. The owners were very friendly and did everything possible to make our stay one worth repeating.

This apartment is located only 3 blocks from the train station which made our arrival and departure much more convenient. We were able to walk to the Antique District. We are already planning to schedual next years vacation in this same place.”

“Upon arrival from NYC, we couldn’t believe how clean, updated and large the apartment was. All of the appliances were new, we loved the sheets, towels and all cooking needs. Not to mention it was a short walk to every restaurant and antique store we wanted to go to, as well as the train. Highly recommended and Fabrice was an excellent rentor”

 2) The Artist’s House

Price/night: $400-$450
Accommodations: Full house, 3 bedrooms
Max guests: 6
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
The Artist’s House is a popular destination for wedding parties and their guests, which makes sense to us, as Hudson is a popular location for weddings. You do not, however, have to be knee-deep in fondant and table charts in order to enjoy your stay at this unique abode. We’re particularly excited about one special amenity offered at the Artist’s House: room service by celebrity chef Zak Pelaccio. As the hosts explain on their profile, their proximity to Zak’s new restaurant, Fish and Game, is just right for breakfast/cocktail delivery, and we can think is nothing better after a day of traveling than finding out that you don’t have to travel even further to try Zak’s “Medieval Love Potion.”

Sample reviews:

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Artist’s House. The house was incredibly clean, tastefully decorated, and well located. It was like staying in a really nice BnB or inn, but we had the whole place to ourselves. The antiques, furniture, lighting, and original art work gave the house a personal feel, but without the clutter of a homeowner’s possessions. And did I mention how clean it was?!? I have rented many places on vacation websites and have never found something so spotless and nicely prepared for guests.

The location was top notch for exploring downtown Hudson. It is one block from Warren Street, which allowed our group to easily come and go as we pleased.

The house provided plenty of room everyone (a group of 5) between the bedrooms, den, living room, and dining room. All had comfortable furniture and good lighting. The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of quality linens. The guest toiletries and welcoming bottle of wine were a nice touch.

We all loved it and would not hesitate to return if in the area again.”

“What an incredible house! A lovely card and welcome basket greeted our arrival. The home is spacious, beautifully appointed, and located in a prime area of Hudson.

My now-wife and I stayed here during our hectic wedding week, and the house was a God-send- Tons of room to use for wedding-related prepping. Breakfasts on the back patio (complete with the sounds of birds chirping). A quick walk to every restaurant/wedding event in town.

We’re already planning our next trip to The Artist’s House!”

 3) The Cherry Alley Studio

Price/night: $160-$180
Accommodations: Studio apartment, 1 bedroom
Max guests: 2
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
Peter and Jonathan’s Cherry Alley Studio, located right in the middle of Hudson’s vibrant historic district, reflects the lively atmosphere of the neighborhood with pops of color and bold patterns. Guests to Cherry Alley are known to get attached to this delightful rental (“I will definitely return as soon as I can, and I WILL be staying at Cherry Alley”), and we don’t blame them. Two words, weekenders: “Tempurpedic mattress.”

Sample reviews:

“The Cherry Alley studio was absolutely perfect for my stay in Hudson! The apartment has its own private entrance and is just behind Warren street where all the shops and restaurants are located.

Jonathan and Peter were very gracious and Peter even picked me up from the train! I highly recommend this apartment for a single person or couple.”

“I would absolutely stay here again. Communicative host. Clean, large, well decorated room with high taste level and attention to detail. Great mattress and pillows and original artwork on the wall. Good light and nice crossflow breeze. Be prepared for Sunday morning neighboring church noise if you sleep with the windows open. Lastly, can’t imagine there is a rental in Hudson with a better, more central location and this much privacy.”
