Margaretville Farmhouse, $179,000

  |  June 19, 2012

Don’t worry; it’s not rustic charm and rough-hewn edges. But mostly it is. This circa-1865 farmhouse three miles outside of Margaretville has a couple of more modern touches, like the 6-foot whirlpool tub in the bath. The kitchen seems like a throwback, and we really like the old coal and wood burning stove still hooked up in it.

The property sits on nearly 2 acres of Delaware River (east branch) frontage and includes a tree house (the listing says it needs work, but still! A tree house!!) and a barn with an adjacent studio space with a sleeping loft. Well-secluded by lots and lots of trees, 15 minutes from Belleayre and about 1/5 of a mile from the Pepacton Reservoir. The taxes are suspiciously low at less than $2000/year. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in an inexpensive upstate weekend getaway. About 2.5 hours from Manhattan.
