Marijuana: the Bane and Hope of Upstate

  |  September 19, 2012

Well, we’re disappointed that Greene County officials didn’t take us up on our plan for economic development in upstate New York, which was to legalize medical marijuana and transform upstate agriculture into a marijuana Mecca. In fact, the opposite has happened. The Watershed Post reports that a sweep of Greene County was performed recently, and the results were ” 515 pot plants found in eight Greene County towns, and 11 arrests either made or pending. Plants were found in Durham, Windham, Coxsackie, New Baltimore, Jewett, Cairo and Hunter.”

If it’s not going to be a booming business, it’s probably going to continue to be an illicit pastime, they continue. “In fact, this year, the New York Harvest Fest and Freedom Fair, an annual concert whose proceeds benefit legalization efforts, will be held — where else? — at Kutcher’s Country Club in Monticello, former home of the famous All Tomorrow’s Parties music festival.”

So, if you’re pro-pot, but don’t want to grow it, perhaps a trip to the festival, from October 12 to 15, will show your support?
