‘Marwencol’ Subject and Author Mark Hogancamp @ Inquiring Minds Bookstore Dec. 4

  |  December 3, 2015

‘Marwencol’ is one of our favorite documentaries. Ever. Not just in the “local interest” sub-category. If you haven’t seen it, ‘Marwencol’ tells the tale of Mark Hogancamp, a Kingston resident who was attacked and nearly beaten to death in a parking lot back in 2000. As a therapeutic means of dealing with the attack, Hogancamp began building a 1/6th scale replica of a c.WWII Belgian town he named Marwencol in his yard using dolls. The documentary, directed by Jeff Malmberg, chronicles Hogancamp’s own documentation of the miniature town and its eventual display at a NYC art gallery.

If you haven’t seen it, we urge you to check it out this Friday, December 4th at Inquiring Minds Bookstore in Saugerties. Mark Hogancamp will be in attendance signing copies of his new book “Welcome to Marwencol” featuring photos of Marwencol and stories to accompany them. The screening begins at 7pm with Hogancamp’s signing to follow. The event is free and falls on the same night as Saugerties’ First Friday, so make a night of it.
