Winter Family Fun at Mohonk Mountain House, Views Included
Kandy Harris | December 11, 2018Gingerbread houses took over Mohonk Mountain House on Sunday, December 9 to ring in the holiday season…
You don’t book a room at Mohonk Mountain House just to crash overnight. The resort perched on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, NY is a full-on experience, and one that is particularly fun during the holiday season. And, for the third year in a row, Mohonk kicked it off with its annual Hudson Valley Gingerbread Competition on December 9th, which will be on display throughout the resort until January 1st, 2019.
House enthusiasts that we are, we decided to go take a look at some of the competition this year…
In total, there were 49 entrant’s in this year’s competition, which was divided into categories like Adult, Junior, Mohonk Employee and Families, and Viewer’s Choice. Proceeds from the event went to the Hudson Valley Food Bank, resulting in a $5,540 donation.
But the holiday revelry at Mohonk doesn’t end with the Gingerbread Competition. Mohonk’s second Ugly Sweater Weekend of the year takes place on December 14. During the weekend, Mohonk invites guests to wear their favorite holiday sweaters and participate in activities such as cocktail tastings, cookie decorating sessions, and more old-fashioned holiday fun. The highlight of the weekend is the Ugly Sweater Contest and Dance Party, where guests wear their craziest holiday sweaters and compete in dance-offs for a chance to win special prizes. More information on Ugly Sweater Weekend here.
While at Mohonk, partake in some ice-skating in the Pavilion…
…and, if you’re not too tired after that, hit the walking trails and head up to Skytop Tower, making sure you stop and take in the views along the way. We promise that pictures do not do it justice…
