Newburgh Gets a CSA

  |  March 19, 2013

This happy news made it over the transom, and we thought we’d share it with you Newburghers, or those of you pondering moving there. It may not be the culinary destination of upstate NY, but this year it has its own CSA. We’re pasting info from their newsletter below.

This year for the first time, Huguenot Street Farm will be offering weekly CSA distribution at the Safe Harbors/Ritz Theater location at 115 Broadway in Newburgh. It’s local, organic produce arriving fresh to your table…from a farm only 22 miles away!

Distributions will be on Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm, June 6th through late October.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) relies on individuals who pledge to support the costs of a farm operation.  In return, they receive weekly ‘shares’ of the farm’s bounty throughout the growing season. Huguenot Street Farm is an all organic operation that has been serving folks in the New Paltz area for over a decade and prides itself on producing delicious, nutritious local vegetables and fruit at below supermarket prices. The farm grows over 125 varieties of naturally grown vegetables, cut flowers and fruits on 77 acres of forever protected and fertile cropland, forest and wetlands. The farm has also gained national attention as an innovator of climate smartfarming technologies like solar charged tractors and the Coolbot cold storage system. Gavin Rinkor, a New Paltz native, is Huguenot Street Farm’s Head Farmer.Angela DeFelice, who worked previously at the Poughkeepsie Food Project as well as at farms in Ithaca, California and Ecuador, is the Farm Manager. They are both amazing farmers and true believers in the importance of sustainable, local agriculture. Newburgh CSA members are also always welcome to stop by the farm for u-pick, for a friendly visit or for farm events and workshops.

Your membership provides you with 5+ months of the freshest locally grown organic produce this side of the Hudson!
