Not Quite Five-Figures in Not Quite Saugerties…But Close Enough, $149,900
Staff | April 21, 2017This four bedroom house is in the town of Saugerties, but not right in the village. In fact, it’s just a couple of minutes north of the village center in the hamlet of Malden-on-Hudson. As the name implies, the Hudson River is but a hop and a skip downhill from this house, which was built in in the late 1800s and is crying out for someone with a skilled hand at restoration work.
Includes nearly 5000 square feet of interior space, five full baths, and a host of original details like wood trim, marble and iron fireplaces, wide-board flooring, and large windows. The house needs a lot of work to bring it back to life, but it’s not hard to see the beauty shining through on the inside…at least, once you tear past the wood paneling. As for the exterior, it’s lackluster compared to the interior, and there are bars on the windows. We’re not sure why; Malden is a safe, quiet hamlet populated with lots of families. No need for bars on the windows in this neck of the woods.
Malden is nearly walking distance from the village of Saugerties (we say “nearly” because the walk involves some hills) and less than 20 minutes from Catskill village in Greene County.
1131 Main Street, Malden (Win Morrison)
