Not Your Ordinary B&B
Kandy Harris | April 25, 2014Sometimes, it’s tough to be a vegan on vacation. Not only do you have to ask the ingredients of every food item before you, there’s also that feeling of guilt of having to constantly ask the ingredients of every food item before you. Wouldn’t it be nice to head upstate and stay somewhere that caters specifically to veganism? That’s exactly what the Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties offers guests of their on-site B&B, the Homestead. The CAS has long been a champion of animal rights, taking in rescued farm animals and allowing them to live out their days in peace and comfort, wandering freely around the farm’s grounds. Additionally, CAS provides educational programs, cooking classes, special events, and tours of the grounds. The B&B is a renovated 19th century farmhouse featuring four rooms, each named after a favorite animal in the sanctuary: The Rambo room offers a king bed, the Paulie room a queen, and in the Dino room, a twin bed. The Samson Suite features a living area, queen bedroom, and a small kitchen. Vegan breakfasts are provided, and cooking demonstrations courtesy the CAS’s resident chef are also offered. Guests can meet the animal residents and tour the sanctuary during the their stay. Rates and availability are available here. Meanwhile, check out the photos of the Homestead after the jump. Exposed brick lovers, prepare to bask in the glory.
