Signs and portents of the O+ Festival 2017 have been seen around Kingston over the past several days as artists work on murals around the city. Tonight – October 6th for the calendrically challenged – the 8-year-old music and arts festival officially kicks off in a huge way with Amanda Palmer at BSP, 323 Wall Street, Kingston, at 7:30pm. The festival provides healthcare for participating artists and performers and aims to create “long-term relationships between creatives and health & wellness providers to help strengthen local communities,” according to opositivefestival.org.
When last we reported on O+, Palmer had not yet been added as the headliner, so imagine all of our collective surprise (and delight!) when we heard the news that’s she’s playing tonight. Aside from Palmer, there are 60+ bands, 20+ visual artists, a parade, yoga and wellness classes, and economics conference all taking place over the weekend of October 6-8. All-access wristband sales end in just 3 hours (eek!), but these shows are by-donation, and it’s for a good cause.
Festival kick-off parade starts at 5:30pm tonight, October 6th, Seven21 Media Center, 721 Broadway, Kingston. See you on the streets at O+ Festival 2017!
