Own a Private Island in Putnam County
Kandy Harris | June 13, 2014When last we spoke of Willow Island, it was over two years ago, and the price tag was at $1.25 million. Now, the private island in Putnam Lake, Putnam County is on the market for less than a million ($995,000), a real bargain as far as private islands go. Here’s the dirt on Putnam Lake: It’s located in Patterson, just a hop and a skip from the NY/CT border. The lake itself is restricted to <5 mph motors or hand-powered boats like canoes or kayaks. In other words, getting on and off the island requires time and effort, so stock up on groceries, buy a helicopter, or grow a huge garden. We’re not sure what happens when the lake freezes over (ice skates?), and we assume that there’s a waste water system that treats water and pumps it back into the lake, but perhaps one of engineer-type readers can edify us on that one. The house itself was built in the 1930s and the interior is pretty with lots of windows from which to look out onto the lake. Also includes a small guest cottage. Need a whole lot of privacy and seclusion? It doesn’t get more private and secluded than this.
