Put the Shine Back into this c.1865 Victorian in Poughkeepsie, $74,500
Kandy Harris | June 9, 2017We almost clicked right past this mini-Victorian with a mansard slate roof while looking for a (rare) five-figure property in Poughkeepsie city. Glad we stopped, however, because we like its prospects should it find its way into the hands of a skilled rehabber.
The exterior makes the house look smaller than it really is. Not that it’s huge at 1424 square feet but with three bedrooms, amble living room space with fireplace, large kitchen, and dining room, it’s not exactly cramped. Perks include hardwood floors, high ceilings, bay window, and full basement. Lot size is .06 acres.
What’s the neighborhood like? For starters, the house belongs to a little group of similar Victorian houses in a row on Marshall Street. Right next door is a deli with a giant open parking lot, which is not the most picturesque view in the world, but the Walkway Over the Hudson is a five-minute walk away, and even the train station is accessible by foot if one was so inclined.
