Ready, Set, Hike: Three Rentals near Slide Mountain for less than $200/night

  |  November 25, 2016

This week on Upstater, we’ve been exploring the hidden places in the mountains, and yesterday’s post by Krystin Sabins got us excited about the prospect of hiking Slide Mountain, the tallest peak in the Catskills. Turns out, there are plenty of rentals available in the Slide Mountain/Big Indian/Panther Mountain area in the Catskills, and you won’t have to pay a lot to enjoy a comfortable place to sleep after a intense day of challenging Catskills hiking.

Wee Purple Bungalow with a View, Big Indian

This insanely sweet little purple cottage is located next to Slide Mountain and Big Indian Wild Forest. In fact, you can take the Giant Ledge Trail a half-mile from the front door. Includes one bedroom with queen sized bed, one full bath, and a futon in the living room for two additional guests. Enjoy some privacy thanks to the 24 acre lot size nestled up to state land. Prepare to unplug; there’s neither wifi nor cell service in this part of the Catskills.

$150/night. Min. two-night stay. Via

Apothecary Loft, Pine Hill

Here’s a second-floor loft apartment in the hamlet of Pine Hill, situated just north of Slide Mountain and five minutes from Belleayre Mountain. The intimate space sits inside a 1920s apothecary storefront on Main Street in the hamlet and includes lots of light, kitchen, and clawfoot bathtub. Upstater has been a fan of this historic building since we first saw it on the market a few years back. Accommodates two guests. Located 2.5 hours from NYC.

$125/night. Min. two-night stay. Via

Charming Catskill Home with Pond, Stream, and 10 Acres, Pine Hill (reopens in the spring)

Who can resist an A-Frame? We sure can’t, which is why we were immediately drawn to this charming chalet-style cottage near Belleyare Mountain, with Slide Mountain to the south and Big Indian Wilderness pretty much in the back yard. The cozy interior sleeps two guests, but it’s really all about the 10 acre property, which comes with its own pond, fire pit, wrap-around porch, and the Catskill Mountains as your playground. Book now for spring 2017 since the cottage is currently closed for the winter.

$149/night. Min. two-night stay. Via
