Well, it’s finally here. The 78 ft. Norway Spruce plucked from the Ulster County hamlet of Gardiner’s fertile soil currently mounted at Rockefeller Center will be officially illuminated with over 30,000 bulbs TONIGHT, December 2. But instead of trying to muscle your way through the thousands gathered to see it in person, why don’t you stay home and whip yourself up a cocktail, instead? After all, NBC will televise the festivities starting at 7pm EST, and our friends at Hudson Whiskey, a small batch distillery also located in Gardiner, have concocted the perfect adult beverage for the occasion made from their signature Hudson Whiskey Manhattan Rye. And here it is, without further ado…

The Norway Spruce
2 parts Hudson Manhattan Rye
3/4 part sweet vermouth
1/2 part Zirbenz Stone Pine Liqueur
2 dashes aromatic bitters
Orange peel, cocktail cherry
Stir liquid ingredients over ice until well-chilled, and strain into-pre-chilled cocktail coupe. Using vegetable peeler, cut swatch of orange zest and squeeze peel-side over drink to express oils on surface, and discard zest. Garnish with cocktail cherry—check gourmet grocers or specialty shops for a proper one that isn’t filled with artificial colors and flavors.

Cheers, Upstaters!
