Rent a full Victorian House in Columbia County for $1200/mo.
Upstater Staff | November 4, 2014For years, we’ve played a little game here at Upstater called “Country Rent vs. City Rent,” in which we take rental prices in upstate New York and compare them to what you get in NYC for the same price. So what can you get for $1200/month in NYC? Possible a cardboard refrigerator box. Or perhaps a tent on someone’s fire escape. Or a sublet in a 5 bedroom row house in Harlem. Call us crazy, but we’d rather sacrifice living close to the hustle/bustle for a full house in the country. In the wee Columbia County hamlet of Ancram (about 25 minutes south of Hudson), you can rent this 2 bed/2 bath Victorian on 4 acres for $1200/month. Granted, Ancram is a one stoplight town in a rural part of the county, but what’s wrong with that? It’s still less than 2 hours from Manhattan and 20 minutes from Rhinebeck. It also has 3 fireplaces, wood floors, big windows, and 2000 square feet worth of charm. No pets or smokers. Security deposit and credit check required. Here’s your reality check: Listing says no laundry in the house, and the closest laundromat is in Red Hook.
Beds: 2
