Kind readers: If one of you decides to rent this circa-1770 stone house in the Orange County town of Wallkill, please invite us over for the holidays. We promise to bring pie. Doesn’t this place look like it dropped right out of a Currier & Ives print, especially when you envision a soft coating of snow on the roof? Pretty as a picture, and (we fantasize) cozy as can be once a fire gets roaring in the living room fireplace. We love the forged iron door details, its picturesque surroundings, and the in-ground pool for cooling off in the warmer months. Oh, and did we mention it’s on 24 acres of land? Our only qualm: The ceilings, combined with the beams, look awfully low. Is it camera trickery, or were people just shorter in the 18th century? Historians, let’s hear some theories.
