You might not recognize it now, but not long ago, this Schodack brick mansion was in need of a total reno…and boy, did it get one. 

Back in May 2017, we featured the c.1785 Captain Schermerhorn House in Rensselaer County, NY. The 6,000-square-foot beauty used to look like this:

Since its bare-bones gut-job, though, it’s gone through some profound changes. But, this is no quick flip; the historic home on picturesque Schodack Creek has been fully restored, keeping its attractive antique features while upgrading everything possible, making it the perfect blend of old and new. The exterior has been stripped of paint down to its original brick, and the interior plank flooring has been refinished to a gleam…

…while light fixtures, mechanicals, central air and heat, and the fabulous chef’s kitchen have been brought skillfully into the 21st century.

In addition to the living room, there’s also a full family room with a brick fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows…

…and, you might notice that the curved staircase looks a little different these days…

…as do the home’s three spacious bedrooms, each with closets and lots of light…

…plus the master suite bath featuring a soaking tub with picture windows offering views of the Schodack Creek.

Finally, the ground-level includes stone walls, a brick fireplace…

Schodack Landing is situated east-of-Hudson, just north of where Schodack Creek splits off, on the border of Rensselaer and Columbia Counties.
