Vintage Cape Cod in Schoharie County, NY, $100K

Some intriguing early-midcentury details lie in wait inside this cute Schoharie Cape Cod on a half-acre of land.
We just love a find like this among the listings: A retro cottage in decent condition, still hanging onto the original details that made it so great in the first place. This c.1940s house caught our attention thanks to its thrifty listing price (technically, it’s a five-figure property at $99.9K), but once we saw the interior, we were in love…

This is the first time we’ve seen embossed walls like this, and we like the look of it, especially framing the little stone fireplace. French doors and wood floors help, too. It appears that the windows are wrapped in plastic; let’s hope it’s because they’re new.

We suspect this might be a kit home based on those walls. However, although our search yielded many similar kit home designs, we couldn’t find an exact match.

Still, it’s early-midmod charms are apparent in its Leave-it-to-Beaver-esque kitchen…

…as well as its four bedrooms, all on the smallish side, with few frills. Its modesty and utilitarianism definitely give off a distinctly Post-WWII vibe.

The half-acre property offers plenty in the way of country environs while still close to attractions like Howe Caverns, the Schoharie Creek, farmstands, campgrounds, hiking, hunting, and fishing. From here, Albany is a half-hour’s drive away.
