Big, Vintage Farmhouse in Southern Dutchess County, Rental House Included, $450K

  |  July 18, 2018

Looking for a lot for relatively little? This southern Dutchess farmhouse should do the trick…

Not that we’re going around calling $450K a bargain or anything, but when that $450K gets you a c.1800 farmhouse with seven bedrooms, nearly 4,000 square feet, and 19.33 acres of land, that’s a decent deal. Throw in a couple of rental apartments, and we’re headed squarely into cost-effective territory.

According to the listing, the main house needs some TLC. Most of the main areas like the living room kitchen/dining room look to be in good condition with refinished floors, high ceilings, and exposed beams. We can see, however, that a few of the bedrooms look like they could use some cosmetic updates like paint, closets, wood trim, etc. Living room includes fireplace with wood stove insert, double French doors, and big windows.

We love the enclosed porch on the second floor, and with a little polish, this would make a comfortable sleeping porch or sunroom.

The farmhouse’s side patio is also a solarium, but it could also use some clean-up and tweaking.

As we mentioned above, the property also comes with two rentals that bring in over $2,000 a month in additional income, the listing says, which would help offset the property tax bill, which are around $11,844 per year.

Situated near the East Fishkill hamlet of Stormville, which is just east of where the Taconic State Parkway meets I-84. That means it’s convenient to Putnam County, Connecticut, and NYC, which is less than 90 minutes away. Talk about a good location! In fact, we’ve been spending the week in southeastern Dutchess and northeastern Putnam County. Check out some other properties we’ve already featured, including this Pawling Hobbit House, and this Patterson converted barn. More to come this week on Upstater!
