Spend the Summer in a Sheet Metal Cylinder for $12,000
Kandy Harris | June 10, 2014A sheet metal cylinder attached to a wooden cottage in the middle of 83 acres, that is. And it’s in one helluva location in Columbia County, town of Clermont, hamlet of Clermont, about 18 miles south of Hudson. Lots of beautiful things to do and see in this part of the Hudson Valley: Historical sites, kayaking on the Hudson, arts/music/theater/various cultural pursuits, farmers markets, good food. And, yes, it’s $6000 a month (lease runs from July 1 to Sept 2), which is kind of a lot. But this rental has a kind of zen-like modern serenity that we find attractive. It almost borders on cold, but if you look at this NYT article about the house from July 2007, you can see from the photos that the right furnishings (and the cottage comes furnished) can soften and warm it up a bit. Nice work with the corrugated metal octagonal living room. Cement floors = cool feet in the summertime. Lease includes utilities. Pets allowed owner’s discretion.
