Spring is Springing

Spring hasn’t quite sprung here in our area of the Hudson Valley; it was close to 28° last night. But if you look closely, you’ll see that it is at least springing. Obviously it’s still a little chilly out there and the trees are bare. But there are signs everywhere that Spring is right around the corner, and not a moment too soon.

We saw our first robin this past weekend and now see quite a few poking around looking for worms and things. Mark saw a LOT of worms in the road while on his morning walk with the dogs. We bought our first bird bath (something that wasn’t even available at Lowes a few weeks ago). And we bought our first couple of plants for the front porch. Unfortunately, those plants may not survive the fact that it got so cold last night. *sigh*

I’m afraid our yard/lot will be thoroughly shaded once all the leaves come in on the trees. So I don’t think I’ll bother with trying to plant anything while we’re in this house. We live on a lot of land. But most of it is wooded or semi-wooded. I doubt that a garden is in my imminent future.

All of the birds seem a little more active than usual as they begin their yearly quest to carve out territories and build their nests. It’s my understanding the true season for nesting won’t begin until all the bugs ‘come in.’

Yesterday was a chilly, damp, gray day. But this past weekend it got kind of warm and the sun was out for most of it. So we decided to pull out some drums, light a fire in the fire pit, and wail away for a few hours. I thought I’d share a few pictures of Spring finally raising its lovely head after the long snowy winter.
