They might look far away on a map, but the Western Catskills NY are closer than you think. Narrowsburg, Callicoon, and Livingston Manor in Sullivan County are all about 2 hours from NYC, and as New York Times Travel recently reported, it’s worth every minute of the drive.
The NYT suggests a number of Sullivan County accommodations like the DeBruce in Livingston Manor or Nine River Road in Callicoon, as well as eateries like Henning’s Local in Cochecton Center or Kaatskeller in Livingston Manor. They also suggest making stops at the Callicoon Farmers Market or visit the Catskill Fly-Fishing Center and Museum, among other destinations. A note: The article refers to Sullivan County as “sleepy,” but it’s only sleepy if you’re looking to party until the sun comes up. Great food, charming inns and B&Bs, and farmers markets make for a pretty happening scene in our estimation, especially when it comes to the Western Catskills.
