We’ve fallen under the spell of this Swiss Chalet compound in New York’s version of the Alps: The Catskill Mountains.
The slopes are calling…Belleayre Mountain, to be exact, about 15 minutes’ drive from this gingerbread lodge in Ulster County, NY. Situated on five acres of land next door to the Big Indian Wild Forest and Slide Mountain, the c.1936 home is just part of the package that also includes a separate writer’s cottage, two-car garage, and two sheds.
Inside the 1,880-square-foot home is an array of Craftsman details like a charming pair of stained glass windows flanking a field-stone fireplace. Also includes wood floors throughout, a vintage free-standing stone wood stove in the kitchen/dining room, and a tavern room with a full bar.
Looks like the perfect place to quaff a hefeweizen or chat with friends over a glass of wine. The kitchen has been updated and comes with stainless steel and polished stone counter tops.
Still more stained and leaded glass…
…and, upstairs, there are four bedrooms.
This the kind of Catskills property one dreams of, with five acres of land surrounded by state land. Soak it all in from in front of the fire pit and waterfall feature, out on the stone patio, or the front deck.
