Hudson Woods, Kerhonkson

Finding an old rambly farmhouse to renovate is fun and all…until reality sets in. The hassle of transforming a fixer-upper into a dream home can be expensive, time-consuming, and down-right stressful. Have you read Country Matters by Michael Korda yet? We’ve mentioned this book before, and it is the book to read if you’re considering a renovation in upstate New York. Talk about a big, fat reality check. So, what’s an incipient upstater to do if renovating is out of the question? Why, buy turn-key, of course. And there are plenty of builders around to help you out. In fact, both Hudson Woods, a new development in Kerhonkson, and Catskill Farms were mentioned in a recent article in the NY Post as alternatives to renovating. Both builders offer completely customizable housing options, which means simply moving right into your new upstate abode. According to Drew Lang of Lang Architecture, the folks behind Hudson Woods, “everyone’s life in the city is so complicated and busy, and the notion of taking on a renovation project is appealing and romantic in theory. The actuality of it, however, can be something else — and unfortunately some people have to figure that out the hard way.” Could turn-keys be the wave of the future in the Hudson Valley? Stay tuned…
