Anybody Looking for a Knitting Mill Listed for under $230K?

Serious investors: Here’s an inexpensive Hudson Valley textile mill awaiting a metamorphosis into something new. What could it be?

This very specific wish can be fulfilled in the form of the Gimp Mill in Valatie, NY, the smallest of the knitting mills in an area once known for its knitting mills. Though it may be the smallest, its floor plan clocks in at nearly 27,000 square feet, making it suitable for housing or offices/studios.

Built in the 1860s, Gimp Mill sits on 3.5 acres of land along the Kinderhook Creek in northern Columbia County, NY. Not only does the bill of sale include the mill buildings themselves, but it also comes with ample parking across the street. Municipal water and sewer also included.

From this location, the village of Valatie – an historic village situated front-and-center to an impressive waterfall – is a half-mile away. Just a few miles to the south is Kinderhook village, where you’ll find a farmer’s market and restaurants and cafes that do take-out. These locales are on the east side of the Hudson River, about two hours’ drive north of NYC, so if you’re looking to jump in on an investment in the Hudson Valley, now is that time. Prices are only going up from here, if Columbia County’s neighboring counties are any indication. Thanks, Coronavirus.

Sidenote: It’s always good to get to know a place before you decide to invest there. Gentrification is a real thing in lots of Hudson Valley and Catskill towns, even the small ones, and it drives out residents who have lived in an area for years. Make sure you do your due-diligence before purchasing.
