The Accord Barnhouse: Where 1890 meets 1980—and beyond.
Jane Anderson | March 17, 2025
Stacked windows add interest.
Well, here’s something you don’t see every day.
The Accord Barnhouse is, literally, a c.1890 barn that underwent extensive renovation in 1980 and was updated again to add modern touches and conveniences. The exterior is an homage to the barn esthetic, from its red accents to the O.G. silo that’s been converted into clever living space.

Big windows add light.
Chunky, whitewashed ceiling beams anchor the living room, which is accessed once you pass through a roomy foyer (visible through that far doorway—for a closer look, check out the online tour).

Jewel tones add coziness.
We hope the new owner lobbies to hang onto those matching cabinets.

The open stairway adds to the airiness.
The ethos here is modern farmhouse, and it’s beautifully done. A dining area sits between the kitchen and the stairs.

There’s clever use of tile on the floor and the stove nook.
Granite countertops are great workspaces atop white cabinets. The appliances are top-notch, from an LG fridge with a see-through door…

We’d love to whip up a meal here.
…to a Bertazzoni gas range. Other recent improvements include a ductless mini-split ventilation system; a new Bosch high-efficiency tankless hot water/baseboard heating system; new Pella double-paned windows throughout; and a new whole house water filtration system.

Minimalistic and lovely.
This office is located next to the silo end of the house…

The hardware on the wall sparks our curiosity.
…and the first floor of the silo is now added office space, with charming, semicircular shelving.

Gallery walls invite artwork.
A wet bar occupies the end of a hallway, next to…

A big window counters the dark walls here.
…a powder room.

The high ceiling is dramatic.
Head upstairs to a landing that overlooks the woodstove in the living room. See that bank of windows up top, to the right in this image?

There’s a clear view from the bed to the silo.
They’re part of the primary bedroom.

We love reading nooks.
Before scratching your head over that, look out the window and see how it lines up with another window: a clever way to introduce more light into the room. Also, notice that sitting room just past the angled doorway.

We especially love a nook inside a nook.
In addition to that light-filled room, there’s another sitting area inside the adjoining, second level of the silo.

All of these modern updates are appreciated.
The primary bathroom has a double-width shower and a trough-sink vanity.

Petite closet doors offer storage potential.
Two other bedrooms are up here. This one has a skylight.

This room is bright and welcoming.
And this one—with a blue-striped accent wall—has a skylight, too.

A burnt-orange accent wall has a coordinating window shade.
Those bedrooms share this bathroom.

The shed roof is oriented to accommodate solar panels, if desired.
This former chicken coop has been converted into a garage and workshop.

This could be a gardener’s dream come true.
The front yard is fenced to deter some critters. Plus, it’s simply pretty. The house measures 2,123 square feet and sits on almost an acre of land. It’s centrally located within a short drive to Stone Ridge, Inness resort (six miles away, where a membership gives access to pools, tennis, a gym, and adult and children programming), and Saunderskill Farms (seven miles from here) for kombucha on tap.
