Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, the stars of reality TV show “The Fabulous Beekman Boys,” will be at Creative Corner Books in Hobart, the Book Village of the Catskills, this Sunday, June 24 from 12–1 pm, signing copies of their latest cookbook A Seat at the Table, co-written with Rose Marie Trapani.
After leaving behind their busy lives in New York City and moving to a historic farm in Sharon Springs in 2007, Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge realized that they better make their property profitable if they were to keep it. That led the duo to launching Beekman 1802, a fast-growing lifestyle brand that has since revitalized the entire town. Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge have been featured on “The Martha Stewart Show,” The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, and many others.
A Seat at the Table, published in September 2017, includes more than a hundred recipes organized by season, and enriched with details about the authors’ neighbors in their small-town community. According to a Publishers Weekly review, “As the authors note in the introduction to a recipe for seared swordfish, they don’t traffic in difficult recipes,” which makes the book accessible to even those of us who spend little time in the kitchen.
This Sunday you can meet Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge as well as Trapani at Creative Corner Books and get autographed copies of their latest book. Creative Corner specializes in craft, cooking, and DIY books, and hosts frequent classes, a weekly knitting group, as well as book signings and other events.
Creative Corner is one of the five independent bookstores in Hobart: Adams’ Antiquarian Books, Liberty Rock Books, Mysteries & More, Blenheim Hill Bookstore, and Butternut Valley Books. The bookstore owners were recently featured in both an Atlas Obscura article and in a segment on NBC’s Today Show. Art in the Catskills wrote a detailed monograph of this tiny Catskills village in 2016—the village became an international destination in a short span of time after its first bookstore, Adams’ Antiquarian Books, opened in 2002.
A Seat at the Table can be purchased prior to the event for a 20 percent discount at http://www.creativecornerbooks.com/events-list/autographed-copy-of-a-seat-at-the-table.
