Getaway Mavens is one of our go-to guides for finding insider-y info on towns in the Northeast. The Mavens (AKA Malerie Yolen-Cohen and Sandra Foyt) usually hit the nail on the head with their recommendations, and Yolen-Cohen’s recent explorations of both Hudson and Saugerties are no different.

Touting Hudson’s finely-tuned design sensibilities, she suggests “meandering” Warren Street to window shop and making stops at FRG Design Showroom (a fine art/furniture/accessory gallery specializing in mid-mod design) and Lili and Loo (another home design shop that has slightly more affordable offerings). Yolen-Cohen also suggested checking out Olana, visiting the city waterfront park, and eating at a few local spots. All good recommendations, and we would also like to add grabbing a falafel from Park Falafel, taking a yoga class or getting a spa treatment at Bodhi Holistic Spa (full disclosure: I teach a yoga class there), and checking out the second hand stores. Oh, and there’s now an Indian food truck on Warren Street. Best check that out, too.

In her journey through Saugerties, Yolen-Cohen submits local hot-spots in the village, such as the Lighthouse, Opus 40, the Smythe House B&B (the breakfast menu is divine and cooked up by a CIA grad), Lucky Chocolates, and a whole bunch more. Again, another strong group of recommendations. On our personal list, we would include Seamon Park, Falling Water Preserve, and a spot of billiards and maybe something yummy from the late night menu at the Pig Bar.

We’d love to hear your must-visit spots in both Hudson and Saugerties. Fire away in the comments.
