The Rail Trail is Steps Away from This Art-Deco-inspired Kingston Home

Kingston’s home inventory includes both old elegance and new elegance. Today, Upstater visits a newer option.
This Art Deco-inspired home is fairly breathtaking. The size isn’t overwhelming (2,652 square feet), nor is the property (8.5 acres); it’s perfect for the owner craving a beautiful home in a nature-loving setting.
Plenty of windows take in the awe-inspiring mountain views.
The near views are pretty awesome, too…and so is the interior. Check out the dramatic black flooring, a stately stone fireplace, and sweeping, open, iron staircase.
So let’s start with that fireplace. It sets an elegant tone on the living room side of the great room, flanked by twin sofas.
It’s a double-sided fireplace, with the other side facing that dining room we saw earlier.
Another dining set adjoins the kitchen, which has a long peninsula that also offers seating. Crowds are welcome here, for sure.
Gorgeous granite counters sit atop green cabinetry in the U-shaped kitchen. Gray slate flooring offers a calming contrast, as do the stainless-steel appliances and reeded charcoal backsplash.
Four bedrooms scatter through the house. This one is dreamy, set under a cathedral, wood-planked ceiling. A Palladian window pours daylight into the space. Skylights on opposing walls contribute even more ambiance.
As if that weren’t enough gasp-worthy beauty, the other end of the house features a similar bedroom: windows, wood planking, skylights, and all.
The third bedroom is more sedate and traditional, but we’re not surprised to see that same dramatic black flooring.
The listing describes 4.5 baths. This one is sleek and modern, with a wide expanse of glass showcasing an enormous shower. Black marble wall tile intersperses with green painted walls and black-and-white floor tile.
Sassy, brassy seahorses support a seaworthy tableau next to a brass-clawfoot tub set under a wood-plank skylight in this bathroom.
We kinda love the unusual green sconces flanking a truly Gothic mirror on the other side of that bathroom. Tiny, sea-green hexagonal tile washes up the walls on this side of the room, too. A tiled shower stall offers a quick bathing option if you simply haven’t the time to soak. And the toilet here lives up to its O.G. moniker as a water closet.
Black and white rules in this bathroom, which also has beige mixed into a fancy-patterned floor. The walls are small hexagonal tiles, with even tinier tiles in the walk-in shower.
The ’70s are calling…They want their sofa back.
A moody mural picks elements from the verdant view through the glass French doors in this slate-floored sunroom/entry.
The yard has not been ignored, either. You can enjoy a mountain view from this perfectly sited hot tub, or relax in an Adirondack chair around the nearby firepit.
A deck offers an elevated experience.
And the swimming pond has an aerating fountain and a couple of docks for kayak-launching.
The home is an oasis in downtown Kingston. The trailhead for the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail is mere steps from the front door. Yet Kingston’s Rondout waterfront, Midtown arts scene, and the historic Stockade District are just minutes away. Woodstock, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Mohonk, and the Catskills are all within half an hour, too. All of this doesn’t come cheap, though: The list price is $ 1,380,000.
