The Saga of Clovelea
Kandy Harris | August 20, 2013Interested in purchasing a slightly distressed, gutted out piece of history in Saugerties? Now’s your chance to get it for just a hair over a million bucks. The property, known as Dragon Inn and Cloverlea, has been sitting empty for years, waiting for someone to rehab it. After failed proposals and plans to do just exactly that, the owner put the beleaguered building on the market. It’s been the target of some controversy, detailed here in this article from the Saugerties Times which ran back in April. Some in Saugerties, including the Cloverlea Conservancy, would like to see the mansion fixed up and renovated, while others want it demolished and believe the owner should be allowed to do whatever he wants with the property. Located right at the gateway to the village on Route 9W, the building is considered an eyesore by many who live near and drive by it on a daily basis. We can see both sides of the argument. What do you make of it all? Tell us in the comments.
Oh, and here’s a link to the listing, just in case you’re getting some crazy ideas.
