The Woodwork in this Victorian in Callicoon Center is Stunning: $499K

Weekends are a great time to fix up the house. Today’s pick is worth every ounce of elbow grease.

This Victorian in Callicoon Center has such beautiful woodwork inside. The exterior is fine, too: Classic white clapboards, a wide front porch, and a wraparound, circular porch that mimics the circular, three-story turret above it.

The porch just goes on and on. Imagine relaxing here on a warm day!

And for the cold days, we’d forgo our old-home bent and install a hot tub right here.

We’re glad that the wood hasn’t been painted over. The front hall is a beautiful example of Victorian fretwork.

Just look at that.

The gingerbread details continue throughout the house, including shielding this inglenook. We love the tiling on the fireplace, too.

The paneling on the center staircase is impressively preserved.

In fact, all of the woodwork seems to be in okay condition. We see a sunroom off to the side in this image.

And a stained-glass accent above this picture window.

The house measures 3,892 square feet, and we bet it’s a bear to heat it. The house is being sold as-is, with no disclosure about the well and cesspool, or the plumbing and heating. It’s a true fixer-upper. But some heat, we’re sure, comes from this well-used woodstove…

…that backs up against a professional gas range in the kitchen.

A half-bath is to the left in this image, with “servant stairs” on the right.

A full bath has a clawfoot tub and truly vintage, colorful linoleum.

Along with all the hard work that’s needed are beautiful surprises, like this seating area way up in the turret.

Another one appears on the main level, too.

According to the listing, the house has eight bedrooms. This one is chock-full of beautiful woodwork.

There is a new roof, but it’s not all good news, though: In addition to the plumbing and heating issues, there’s water damage and maybe mold issues, too.

Twenty-plus country acres await exploration here, along with an icehouse and guest house, the listing says.

It’s just begging for someone to bring it all back to life.

Yes, it’s tucked into the Sullivan County woods, and two hours outside of Manhattan. But oh, what a beauty it is. And it’s not a long haul to civilization—within 15 minutes, you can be in fly-fishing heaven, with all the amenities that brings (along with a brew and dinner at Callicoon Brewing Company). The price was just reduced, too.
