This c.1900 Highland Falls House Has a Stunning Primary Suite: $399.9K

As we wrap up our firepit-centric week, today we’re in Highland Falls, at a three-story home backed by a babbling brook.

The 1,624-square foot house is a 10-minute drive to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where you can visit the legacies of soldiers and learn about our nation’s military history. If you’re not feeling that vibe, though, this house is an easy choice for a homebody. Barn-red siding and a gambrel roof lend a country feel. The house was built in 1900, but has had plenty of updates.

Inside, the kitchen has a wood floor, wire shelving, and a butcher-block island.

A wall of sage-green cabinetry provides lots of storage.

The living room is a good size, and it, too, has a wood floor along with beige walls and white molding.

A glass door with twin sidelights leads to the rear deck from the living room.

An arched doorway connects the living room to a burgundy-hued dining room.

The full bath on the main level is blue and white, with a pedestal sink and a water-saving toilet.

This  bedroom is painted a nice, dusky blue. It’s got a blue-and-white carpet underfoot, and two closets flanking a space for a dresser.

The other secondary bedroom is beige with a complementary-toned carpet.

The top floor is dedicated to a 400-square-foot primary suite. The ceiling rises dramatically, with heavy wood beams criss-crossing it and a red brick chimney climbing the middle of the bedroom. The floor is hardwood, and the walls are light brown from chair-rail height to the floor, and white above.

A curtained alcove makes for a perfect window seat.

The full bath here has beige wainscoting, a white pedestal sink, and (from what we can see) a white tub/shower.

The back deck rises high above the backyard, with arboreal views.

The walkout basement has a stone exterior wall. It’s currently unfinished. The property totals two-tenths of an acre, with stone walls, a platform deck, a firepit, and sloping ground.

Imagine wading in this brook on a hot summer day! That rope allows you to tie off a raft and float among the currents.
