This Middletown Foursquare with Beautiful Craftsman Woodwork is Listed at $324.9K

Wrapping up our Middletown exploration this week is this beautifully preserved 122-year-old Foursquare in the city.

The 1,388-square-foot house is located in the Fancher Park neighborhood—a short walk to the public Fancher-Davidge Park, which has a lake to walk around, public pools, and a disc-golf course. But then again, this house is so pretty you might just want to hang around all the time.

The entry sets the stage with Craftsman columns and other rich woodwork. The carpeting here is in good condition, but it’s up to the new owner whether to investigate the benefit of removing it to find potential hardwoods.

The entry opens into a nice living room and even more columns (one of which apparently has been turned into a handy cat-scratching post!).

The fireplace surround in the living room was updated and now has a wood-framed marble surround and hearth, with a bright brass firebox.

The dining room has wood wainscoting, hardwood floors, and a stained-glass pendant over the dining area. The windows here and in the living room are covered with a combination of shutters and curtains.

Ah, here’s a colorful interpretation of the original kitchen! The cabinets definitely look original, albeit painted in baby blue. The countertops have been updated, but the original hardwood floors have been maintained.

The fridge is in a wainscoted nook that has sliders out to the backyard.

There’s a bright half-bath here, too.

Head up the stairs from the living room, past a sunny window, to the second floor.

This room is heavy on the wood paneling, and a neat wood wall unit with twin shelving. Is that a wardrobe? A closet?

Hey, it’s a Murphy bed!

This bedroom is a floral fantasy. It’s bright and sunny, but—if they don’t mind the scraping—the new owner might want to remove the wallpaper.

The third bedroom has a hardwood floor and pink-painted trim.

The full bathroom has white ceramic tile on the floor, a tub/shower combination that looks like it includes a vintage green tub, and an updated vanity. The wallpaper here is pretty and neutral toned.

Soak the sun into your bones during the summertime on the two-level back deck.

The side of the house has a paver patio with a large white pergola.

And the backyard has this sweet gazebo and a shed. The brick path needs to be redone, and some other work should be considered to remove tripping hazards, but it’s a nice backyard overall.

The house has a full unfinished basement and a walk-up attic. Like other homes in the city, this house is convenient to lots of shopping and restaurants and not far from Route 17/86, otherwise known as the Quickway.
