This Week on Upstater: Close to NYC, a Million Miles Away
Kandy Harris | October 19, 2015Getting as far away from the city as possible is great for about three months out of the year. That is, until the snow starts to fly. That’s about the time that the novelty of driving 3 hours to your second home in the Catskills or mid/upper Hudson Valley starts to wear off. Staying within 2 hours of NYC starts to make a whole lot more sense when you remember that back country and mountain roads don’t always get plowed after a snowstorm as quickly as more populated areas, and three hours can rapidly turn into four or even five hours if the weather takes a turn or the traffic is nuts. Who wants that hassle? Maybe you don’t. Maybe you’re a commuter or a second home owner. Or, maybe you already live up here full-time but still want to be close to the city. If either of these ring true (and you can afford the higher property taxes that come with inching ever closer to downstate), this week’s real estate offerings are for you. All will be located less than 2 hours of NYC, all will feel like you’re still a million miles away. Stay tuned…
