Bard College Conservatory Sunday Series
The Bard College Conservatory Orchestra performs a concert this Sunday, November 1 at 3 pm at the Fisher Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, as part of the Conservatory Sunday Series. The orchestra, conducted by Leon Botstein, will present works by Beethoven, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and Byron Adams. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, which will be performed on Sunday, was written by the great composer in 1812, and it’s known for its extraordinary rhythmicity. Woodstock Playhouse’s Traditional Halloween Party
Woodstock Playhouse is hosting its traditional community Halloween party this Saturday, October 31 at 6 pm. Live music will be performed on the veranda. At 7 pm The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra will present a Halloween Pops Concert. A pre-concert talk titled “Meet the Instruments” begins at 6:15 pm in the lobby. Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes: there will be a costume contest, and the grand prize winners will be invited to conduct the orchestra. Cross Contemporary Art Gallery
Cross Contemporary Art Gallery in Saugerties is hosting an art opening reception this Saturday, October 31 at 6 pm featuring the works of multi-media artist Iain Machell. The show titled “Platte Clove Lens” includes recent works by Machell produced during a recent artist residency at Platte Clove. Platte Clove was a favorite painting site for artists affiliated with the Hudson River School of Painting which idealized nature in their works. Machell’s approach is rather different.
